I’ve tailored from Ehkay Corner Tailors multiple times before – they are one of my favourite affordable tailors. Still, it’s been more than two years since my last visit to Ehkay Corner Tailors. As I’ve mentioned in a few previous articles, I’ve unfortunately put on a bit of weight recently, which made this the perfect excuse to return to Ehkay Corner for a new suit. Here’s how the experience went.

Ehkay Corner Tailors – the Experience
For those unfamiliar with the brand, Ehkay Corner Tailors is located on the ground floor of Orchard Plaza, with a prominent storefront facing Orchard Gateway — it’s hard to miss.
The brand is helmed by husband-and-wife duo Dinesh and Hina, both of whom bring decades of tailoring experience to the table. Having inherited the trade from his father and elder brother, who previously ran the business, Dinesh grew up immersed in the craft, with Hina later joining him after their marriage. Together, the pair have outfitted countless satisfied clients — particularly grooms and groomsmen — earning a near-perfect Google rating from more than 1,100 reviews.
The store’s decor remains cosy and decidedly old-school, and — for better or worse — has remained virtually unchanged since my first visit seven years ago. As such, if you’d like a more detailed look at my initial impressions of Ehkay Corner Tailors, both in terms of the ambience and service, do check out my original review here, as much of my opinion still holds true today.
That’s not to say Ehkay Corner Tailors has remained stagnant. In recent years, the brand has significantly strengthened its visibility and reputation. Dinesh, for instance, went viral for sporting the above-pictured Liverpool-themed suit during Liverpool FC’s visit to Singapore, while Ehkay Corner Tailors was also recognised by The Straits Times as a distinguished heritage tailor. Compared to my first visit back in 2017, there has been a noticeable leap in branding and public recognition. While Orchard Plaza is home to several tailoring shops, Ehkay Corner Tailors arguably enjoys the strongest reputation among them today.
Given Ehkay Corner Tailors’ positioning as a heritage tailor, I opted for a retro-inspired brown suiting fabric for this new commission. I was particularly drawn to its subtle herringbone pattern, which adds a touch of visual texture and character without being overly loud. Ehkay Corner Tailors doesn’t use a basted fitting system (as is typical of affordable tailors to save costs), so customers typically try on the fully constructed suit during their second visit.
Given that this was my fifth commission with Ehkay Corner Tailors, I decided to place my trust entirely in Dinesh’s hands, simply telling him during the consultation that I wanted something retro-inspired — think Mad Men-esque. When I first tried on the finished suit, Dinesh enthusiastically walked me through the various stylistic choices he had made, from the wide peak lapels to the addition of a ticket pocket on the jacket.
Dinesh also took the liberty of cutting the trousers in a Gurkha style, complete with pleated fronts and cuffed hems, further reinforcing the suit’s retro-inspired aesthetic.
During the fitting, we were also joined by Mr Toh, one of Ehkay Corner Tailors’ dedicated jacket cutters. For those less familiar with tailoring, the jacket cutter is responsible for translating the recorded measurements into the actual cut of the jacket and trousers from the selected fabric. As such, having the cutter present on-site during a fitting is usually a reassuring sign of a hands-on, detail-oriented process.
During the fitting, we noticed that the jacket’s sleeve pitch was slightly off, resulting in visible wrinkles along the sleeves, as shown in the photos above. Both Mr Toh and Dinesh acknowledged the issue and assured that it would be corrected by the time of final collection. It’s also worth noting that, although Ehkay Corner Tailors does not use a basted fitting stage, adjustments such as sleeve pitch can still be addressed and refined during subsequent alterations.
Ehkay Corner Tailors – Suit Review
Let’s now take a closer look at the fit and workmanship of the finished suit from Ehkay Corner Tailors.
Firstly, I’m pleased to report that Dinesh and Mr Toh have since rectified the sleeve pitch. As seen in the photo above, the sleeve now drapes cleanly without any wrinkling.
Moving on to the fabric, the brown textured cloth is especially eye-catching, with its understated texture adding depth and character to the otherwise retro-inspired aesthetic. The warmth of the fabric is particularly appealing, pairing beautifully with the broad peak lapels for a bold yet cohesive look. Finishing touches such as the pick stitching along the lapels and breast pocket further enhance the suit’s sophistication, while the integrated pocket square adds a thoughtful and practical flourish.
The buttons are also hand-shanked, allowing the fabric to drape more naturally when fastened. Beyond improving comfort and drape, hand-shanking also enhances button durability, extending their lifespan. It is a subtle but telling detail typically associated with higher-end tailoring.
I also appreciate the dark brown horn buttons, which beautifully complement the fabric’s earthy warmth. In addition, the jacket features functional cuffs—a classic hallmark of quality tailoring—while the buttonholes are cleanly cut and neatly finished, further underscoring the garment’s strong craftsmanship.
Another detail I appreciated was the ticket pocket, which further enhances the suit’s classic, timeless character. In addition, a subtle lapel roll is present, reinforcing the garment’s overall sartorial sensibility.
On the inside of the jacket, we opted for a simple monogram of my name, paired with a striking paisley lining that provides a tasteful contrast to the suit’s retro-inspired aesthetic.
As for the trousers, the Gurkha-style design further reinforces the suit’s retro-inspired aesthetic. For the uninitiated, Gurkha trousers trace their origins to the Gurkhas—widely regarded as one of the world’s most formidable military forces—who famously wore these distinctive trousers featuring double pleats and a high-rise, cummerbund-style waistband secured with buckle fastenings.
Here, Dinesh takes a more expressive approach to the Gurkha trousers, introducing bronze double buckles that add visual interest—albeit at the cost of some practicality—and cuffed hems that lend a timeless menswear touch. In this fabric, the design comes together particularly well. I can easily see myself wearing the Gurkha trousers on their own, perhaps paired with a turtleneck or polo tee, for a look that feels effortlessly sartorial without coming across as overly formal or contrived.
All in all, I’m very pleased with my latest commission from Ehkay Corner Tailors. The suit fits well, and I appreciate the range of retro-inspired details—such as the ticket pocket, wide peak lapels, and Gurkha trousers—which collectively enhance its sartorial character. I’ve noticed my tastes have been evolving of late; rather than slim-fitting navy suits in safer, more conventional tones like my earlier commission, I now gravitate towards more expressive, sartorial styles—double-breasted cuts or a Mad Men–inspired aesthetic like this. I’ve also recently commissioned a similar brown suit from Jacob Bespoke Tailors; while that piece leans more modern, this one incorporates more traditional menswear detailing, which gives it a distinct presence.
Conclusion – so Ehkay Corner Tailors “shiok” or not in 2026?
With Dinesh and Hina, returning always feels less like a client appointment and more like catching up with family during Chinese New Year. There’s a genuine sense of warmth and familiarity that not only defines their service but also seems to carry through into the garments themselves. It has been heartening to see Ehkay Corner Tailors grow in recognition over the years, but at its core, the business remains unchanged: well-made, sharply tailored suits at accessible prices, paired with a personable approach that makes you feel more like a friend than a customer. For anyone looking for classically styled tailoring that offers strong value without compromising on service, Ehkay Corner Tailors remains one of my top recommendations.
